CANVAS - Zweigart Mono Deluxe
My favorite canvas is made in Germany. 100% cotton, it is easy to work with and will retain its shape. Size #14 or #18 Mesh, depending on the pattern.
Not all stores carry them so I buy them on Amazon or from StitchArt Needlepoint.
YARNS - DMC Six Strand Embroidery Floss / DMC Satin Floss
Most of the yarns I use are DMC Six Strand Embroidery Floss.
Made from long staple Egyptian cotton and double mercerized for a brilliant sheen, this premium thread comes in hundreds of colors. It can be doubled for extra thickness in some patterns. It is 100% colorfast and fade resistant.
I use DMC Satin Floss for accents.
It is a highly lustrous, divisible, six strand thread made of 100% rayon fibers. Every stitch with this silky thread reflects the light, making for a beautiful brilliant sheen.
All DMC yarns can be found at JoAnn or Michaels or online: .
YARNS - Rainbow Gallery Neon Rays
For accents, I also use Rainbow Gallery Neon Rays.
It is a high sheen ribbon thread. This 100% rayon ribbon has a satin-like finish to it. To be used on #18 canvas. To find a shop near you, go to rainbowgallery.com. You can also buys then online on Etsy.
This beautiful yarn comes in many bright colors, but must be worked very carefully to retain its great shine:
When doing any stitch other than a tent stitch, the kinks in the ribbon must be removed. There are several ways to do this, one of which should be right for you. The easiest way is to wet the working length of the ribbon. Use a damp sponge, white paper towel, cloth or whatever, running the Neon Rays through. It is best to use water, as opposed to any other liquid, to remove the kinks. Let the Neon Rays dry before stitching.
A laying tool can be used to preserve the beauty of this yarn.
Approximately 7 inches (17.78 cm), a laying tool (also called a stiletto) allows one to keep threads flat, untwisted, and separated, producing a smooth, professional stitch. From beautiful Hair Stick to the classic Purple Thang, many options can be found on Amazon.
NEEDLES - DMC #20
